Painting as a Martial Art
The Lyrical Abstractions of Stephen Paul Connor

Austin, TX, Feb. 28, 2010 ~ “Painting is like a martial art” states the artist; “it requires focus and intent to make a connection with the psyche.” Furthermore, “Successful drawing moves the receptive viewer into alert contemplation.” A current exhibit at Laguna Gloria possesses 14 works on paper and 3 canvases.

Having studied with second-generation Abstract Expressionists in New York City, Stephen Paul Connor is well versed in the methods of a dynamic approach to painting. The artwork displays dramatic brushwork and sinuous line. Aluminum paint and enamels dance in an engaging realm of spatial openness, resonant with unspoken meaning.

The small, well-lit Gatehouse Gallery is conveniently located near a cafe, on the beautiful grounds of Laguna Gloria, 3809 West 35th Street. All works are for sale -- this is a rare opportunity to add outstanding examples of modern abstraction to a private or corporate collection. Gallery hours are 11:00-4:00 M-F. The exhibit remains open through April 2, 2010.
